Warm Up Winter !
The Greater New Bedford Choral Society promises to warm you up and brighten the darkness of mid-January with a Caribbean-flavored classical concert on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at 3:00 PM, at Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. James Parish, 233 County St., New Bedford. Conducted by Gerald P. Dyck and accompanied by Christopher Ricci, the program presents a unique combination of choral music with the Caribbean rhythms and sounds of the “El Caribe” Steel Drum Ensemble, directed by Jamie Eckert, and enhanced by mezzo-soprano soloist Roselin Osser.
The program's first half includes the powerful and spiritual “O Nata Lux” by Morten Lauridsen, and several melodious songs from the “Marienlieder” series by Johannes Brahms.
Following an intermission, the steel drum ensemble accompanies an unusual and rhythmic “Missa Florens” by Dale Jergensen, “Calypso Carols” by Crocker and Stonehill, and “Shout for Joy”, a suite of holiday sprituals by Robert DeCormier.
Tickets are $15; children (under 12) free.
The Greater New Bedford Choral Society includes singers from New Bedford and nearby cities and towns, and has brought memorable choral music of all varieties to regional audiences for over 40 years.
