Choral Society Announces Spring Concert

The Greater New Bedford Choral Society, led by Gerald P. Dyck, Music Director, will present a refreshing and varied Spring Concert on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 7:30 PM, at Grace Episcopal Church, 133 School Street, New Bedford.

Following a grand organ piece by accompanist Christopher Ricci and a four-part canon by William Billings, the featured work will be the Solemn Mass of Louis Vierne, the late Romantic French organist and composer who flourished in the early 20th century.  The work was originally written for chorus and two organs, but has been arranged by the composer for the majority of churches that have a single organ.  The mass is memorable for its unforgettable melodies and luscious harmonies, reflecting the composer’s ability to combine the human voice and the church organ to their best advantage.

The concert continues with Songs of Travel by Ralph Vaughan Williams, based on poems by Robert Louis Stevenson, performed by Gerald Dyck and Christopher Ricci.

The chorus concludes the program with four Part Songs by Franz Schubert on the themes of love and destiny, a set of light-hearted Canadian songs by Donald Patriquin, and the traditional Musical Blessing composed by Director Dyck.

Tickets are $15, available at the door or from any choral society member.  Children 12 years and under are admitted for $5.  For more information please visit www.gnbcs.org or call 508-644-2419.
