Council-Sponsored Organization News: ArtWorks! Teen Artists' Latest Project

Bravo to our friends at ArtWorks!

Participants of ArtWorks! Teens Reach Beyond Program created some beautiful art in unexpected places this summer: on an old gray electrical box in Downtown New Bedford.

On the corner of William and Purchase Streets, you'll now find a colorful design based on Koi goldfish, which wraps around three sides of the box.  Students decided on the Koi because, like the city of New Bedford, it is associated with perseverance and strength of purpose.

Artist/educator Alison Wells and ArtWorks! Education and Outreach Director Debra Smook lead the 40-week program for teens. ArtWorks! Teens Reach Beyond is a free program that meets on Thursday afternoons throughout the year.  Teens Reach Beyond is supported in part by a City of New Bedford Community Block Grant, and funding from the New Bedford Local Cultural Council, the Greater New Bedford Allies for Health and Wellness, the New Bedford Day Nursery, and the Women's Philanthropic Initiative.

If you are a teen or know a teen who is interested in participating, you can call the ArtWorks! office at 508-984-1588, and be sure to visit their web page:  http://www.artworksforyou.org

The Fairhaven Cultural Council is proud to be a sponsor of another ArtWorks! initiative, the Teen Artist Internship Program, and congratulates this excellent organization on all of their work with young artists!
