This summer, the ever-popular New Bedford Festival Theater is presenting not one, but TWO musicals! Both shows will be presented at the Zeiterion Theater in downtown New Bedford. Tickets are on sale NOW!
The descriptions below are couretsy New Bedford Festival Theater's web site:
First, the '60's celebration Hair will be on stage from July 8-17, 2011. This exuberant musical is about a group of young Americans searching for peace and love in a turbulent time has struck a resonant chord with audiences young and old. HAIR follows a group of hopeful, free-spirited young people who advocate a lifestyle of pacifism and free-love in a society riddled with intolerance and brutality during the Vietnam War. While many find HAIR suitable for young adults (13 and older) parental discretion is advised. There is a dimly lit 20 second scene with nudity that is non-sexual in nature and also adult language.
Next, A Chorus Line will be performed from July 29-August 7, 2011. A Chorus Line is a musical about Broadway dancers auditioning for a show. The book was authored by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics were written by Edward Kleban, and music was composed by Marvin Hamlisch. With nineteen main characters, it is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. The show provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers.
