This July, the Acushnet Classic Ensemble (ACE) will be performing an impressive program for it’s 22nd season. The theme for summer 2011 is "Colors of the Orchestra," and the musical selections include the "Overture to Music for the Royal Fireworks" by Handel, "Greensleeves" arranged by Vaughan Williams, and "Can Can" by Offenbach. "A Score for ACE," the ensemble's signature work commissioned for ACE in 2007, will be performed as well.
A very special encore will feature "The Stars and Stripes Forever," by John Philip Souza during which a 15' x 9' American flag art piece will be lowered. The flag was created by residents of Alden Court Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Center in Fairhaven.
The orchestra is comprised of 55 local student musicians, aged 11 to 18, led by conductors Marta Findlay-Partridge, Daniela Chirigotis and Thomas Short.
All ACE concerts are free to the public and are held in the Performing Arts Center at Fairhaven High School on Larch Avenue in Fairhaven, MA. The center is air-conditioned and handicapped-accessible.
2011 ACE concert dates:
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 1 PM (special presentation for senior citizens)
